The Mechanics Institute opened in 1910 and continues to provide education, recreation and a focal point for community activities and events for Little River and the surrounding districts.
The heritage library includes some of the original books from 1910, a growing collection of local and rural Australian history including Aboriginal history, and a range of fiction for all ages.
The large country hall with traditional stage and polished wood dance floor and the well equipped supper room are available for hire. The hall seats up to 100 people at tables and up to 160 for meetings or lectures and is also used for art exhibitions and displays. The supper room seats 30 in comfort or can be used for buffet service.
The Mechanics Institute is managed by an independent committee for the benefit of both the City of Greater Geelong and City of Wyndham residents of the Little River district.
