Essence Theatre Productions is an independent not-for-profit theatre company specialising in bringing Australia's unique historical stories to life through live performance. A team of actors perform each weekend at Werribee Park Mansion either through What Was That, a historical romp into the Chirnside era filled with comedy and scary elements, or The Dress, the new production set in the late 19th-century fashion world of Melbourne. A wonderfully surprising engaging play about two unlikely allies, widow Hannah Green and her seamster, Mr Bertin. With stunning costuming!
Running each weekend since 2003 and seen by over 30,000 patrons, What Was That? involves professional actors in character who take an audience through the magnificent Werribee Park Mansion. This roaming immersive experience combines history, comedy and scary elements and the story unfolds as they move to different locations.
Alaine Beek, founder of the company, is the main playwright and with her team has developed a number of plays to be performed and sometimes toured throughout Victoria and interstate.
Essence Theatre Productions is located within the City of Wyndham, 45 minutes from Melbourne CBD. For bookings or for more information, visit the website.
